WEEK 1

GOVERNMENT GIRLS HSS, MAVELIKARA.



Teaching practice is a vital phase in a teacher's professional development. It provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom settings, interact with students, and develop essential teaching skills. This hands-on experience is crucial for building confidence, refining teaching methods, and understanding the dynamics of classroom management.


As part of our two year B.ed programme, we 6 B.ed trainees from Peet Memorial Training College, Mavelikara, went to Govt. Girls Hss for our first phase of teaching practice from 19 August 2024. Before going for teaching practice we visited the school on the first week of August to get the portions we have to cover during the period. Archana Teacher was my concerned teacher and she askedv me to take the remaining 3 chapters from the 2nd unit of Kerala Reader English  Part1. So we were all prepared with the alloted portions and lesson plans signed by the respective teachers.


DAY 1 (19/08/2024)




We arrived at the school by 9:30 a.m., where we met with the headmistress to hand over the official letter and attendance register. The day commenced with the school prayer song. I was assigned to teach in class 8 A, with my first session scheduled for the 7th period. During the 2nd period, Archana teacher instructed me to monitor the students of class 9 B as part of a substitution duty. During the lunch break, we assisted in serving the mid-day meal. Finally, during the 7th period, Archana teacher accompanied me to my assigned class, 8 A. I introduced myself to the students and promptly began teaching the poem From a Railway Carriage. I successfully completed one lesson plan during this period. Fortunately, I also received the 8th period with the same class, which allowed me to complete my second lesson plan and finish teaching the poem. The students were attentive and engaged, making it a positive and welcoming experience for me as a first-time teacher.


DAY 2 (21/08/2024)

On the 2nd day, I was absent as I had to appear for the UGC NET exam. Prior to my absence, I sought and obtained permission from the headmistress, the concerned subject teacher and my optional subject teacher. With their approval, I took leave on that day.


DAY 3 (22/08/2024)




The day started with an assembly. As per the timetable, I have to take over the 2nd period in 8 A. I completed one lesson plan during that hour. As a compensation for my previous day's absence, I managed to get a substitution period and completed one more lesson plan on the 4th period, the same day. During lunch break, we assisted the teachers in serving the mid-day meal.




DAY 4 (23/08/2024)


This was our fourth day in the school. As per the timetable, I had class in the 1st period and I completed 1 lesson plan. During the 3rd period, there was a State Assessment Test scheduled for the 9th standard students and we were asked by the teachers to assist them in conducting the test. During lunch break, we served mid-day meal and in the afternoon session, the teachers instructed us to evaluate and tabulate the mark sheets of SAT. It was a first-time experience and we enjoyed it.


WEEK 2


DAY 5 (27/08/2024)




On the fifth day at school, everything went as usual. I was assigned a substitution period in the forenoon session, during which Archana Teacher asked me to teach the students profile writing. Following her instructions, I was able to effectively deliver the lesson. During the lunch break, we served lunch to the students. In the fifth period, I started a new chapter and completed one lesson plan.


DAY 6 (29/08/2024)







The 6th day began with the school assembly, the assembly was conducted by class 8 A. I had class during the 2nd period and I completed the 2nd lesson plan of the chapter. 3rd period, I got a substitution period in 8 A and Archana Tr asked me to help students in doing the textual activity on Question Tag. During lunch break, we helped in serving mid day meal.







DAY 7 ( 30/08/2024)


A school-level IT Quiz organized by the Education Department required our invigilation during the first three periods. In the 4th period, we monitored the State Achievement Test (SAT). During the 5th period, I taught a lesson to class 8 A and successfully completed another lesson plan. In the 7th period, we assisted the teachers in grading the SAT answer sheets. In the final period, I reviewed and corrected the notebooks for classes 8 A and 8 C as per Archana Teacher's instructions. We departed from the school at 3:50 pm.



WEEK 3

DAY 8 (02/09/2024)

The day commenced with a school assembly led by the students of class 7. This special assembly was organized to distribute copies of the Deshabhimani newspaper to the school and to raise awareness about the Aksaramuttam Quiz program. During the 3rd period, I taught a class in 8 A and completed a lesson plan. In the 4th period, I was assigned a substitution period in 8 C, where I revised figures of speech in the poem From a Railway Carriage. As the Onam exams were set to begin the following day, classes were held only until noon, and we left the school by 1 pm. Since we were not required for exam duties, we are to return to the school only after the Onam vacation.








WEEK 4

DAY 9 (23/09/2024)

This was our first day back at school after the Onam vacation. The first-year B.Ed students from KUCTE Kunnam were present for their School Induction Programme. The school-level Maths and Science Quiz was conducted, and we were asked to assist the teachers in invigilation and evaluation of the response sheets. The winners from the school level have been selected for the sub-district competition.

I had a class in 8A during the third period, where I successfully completed my 10th lesson plan. In the afternoon session, I was assigned a substitution period in class 7B.








DAY 10 (24/09/2024)

During the first period, I was assigned a substitution in class 7B. In the fifth period, I conducted my lesson in class 8A, successfully completing my 11th lesson plan. During the afternoon session, in the seventh period, the school-level Science Talent Search exam took place, where we were tasked with monitoring and evaluating the response sheets. Akshitha from class 9B secured the first position in the competition. Additionally, Sunila and I were asked by Asha teacher to assist the school’s role play team during their rehearsal session, in preparation for the sub-district competition. We provided guidance on pronunciation, voice modulation, and dialogue delivery.







DAY 11 (25/09/2024)

The morning session was fully dedicated to assisting students with the role play rehearsal. During the 6th period, I completed my 12th lesson plan in class 8A. In the 7th period, Asha Bharathan teacher, a trained theatre artist, provided her professional expertise to the role play team, offering valuable advice. In the final period of the day, students were informed about the upcoming school Kalolsavam. They were divided into different houses, and under the guidance of their respective teachers, discussed their plans and registered for various events.







DAY 12 (26/09/2024)


The day began with the school assembly, which was conducted by the students of class 8B. During the assembly, prizes were awarded to the school-level winners of the Maths and Science Quiz as well as the sub-district level volleyball match winners. I conducted a class during the 2nd period, completing another lesson plan. For the 3rd, 4th, and 5th periods, we assisted students with their role play rehearsal. In the afternoon session, the school-level number chart preparation competition took place, and we were tasked with monitoring the students. During the 7th period, we collected data for our school-based activity from class 9 students, gathering 30 samples.











DAY 13 (27/09/2024)


On a day filled with substitution periods, I engaged with various classes during the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th periods. In class 8A, during the 4th period, I completed my 14th lesson plan. During the 7th and 8th periods, as part of both the school-based activity and the college NSS initiative, we conducted an awareness session on menstrual hygiene and Swatchhata Hi Seva Programme. We also led the students in a plastic waste collection drive around the school campus, ensuring the collected waste was disposed of properly in the designated bins. I was pleased to see the school role play team secure first position in the sub-district level competition.












WEEK 5

DAY 14 (30/09/2024)

The school campus was abuzz with intense practice sessions for the upcoming Kalolsavam. I was tasked with monitoring both the literary and off-stage events. In addition, I assisted the role play team with their rehearsals for the district-level competition. During the 3rd period, I handled a substitution in class 6A, and later, in the 7th period, I conducted my scheduled lesson in class 8A. I successfully completed my 15th lesson plan, thereby concluding the second unit of the curriculum.



DAY 15 (01/10/2024)

The first day of October, marking the 15th day of our teaching practice, commenced with the invigorating school prayer. Aiswarya Miss visited the school for her Maths optional observation, during which she observed the class and provided insightful feedback. In between, I engaged the students of class 8C, assisting them with their textual activities. During the fifth period, I conducted my lesson in class 8A, completing my 16th lesson plan. Additionally, I was responsible for monitoring non-literary competitions, such as pencil drawing and vegetable painting, during free periods, along with assisting the role play team in their rehearsal.






DAY 16 (03/10/2024)

Today was the first day of the school Kalolsavam, so there were no regular classes. We were in charge of keeping discipline and helping with the organization of the events. In between, we also had to monitor and evaluate the NAS model exam for class 9 students.









DAY 17 (04/10/2024)

Today marked the second day of the school Kalolsavam, with group performances being the highlight. Our responsibility extended to maintaining discipline throughout the day. However, what made the day special was being invited, for the first time in my role as an English teacher, to serve as a judge for the English recitation competition. Along with Sunila, I had the opportunity to evaluate performances at the HSS, HS, and UP levels. It was a unique and enriching experience. The students were well-prepared, presenting poems that ranged from O Captain! My Captain! to Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening. We assessed their performances based on pronunciation, rhythm, intonation, stress, and expressions.


WEEK 6

DAY 18 ( 07/10/2024)

The school day commenced with the morning assembly conducted by class 8C. As it was the final day of rehearsals for the district-level roleplay competition, a significant portion of the day was devoted to assisting the students and offering constructive suggestions for improvement. During the afternoon session, Mumtas Miss conducted her general observation and visited our class. She observed my lesson during the 7th period and provided insightful feedback, highlighting areas for improvement.








DAY 19 (08/10/2024)

The school roleplay team departed for the district-level competition, accompanied by Asha Bhasker teacher. With five teachers on leave, the headmistress instructed us to engage in free periods and provided substitution duties. We took responsibility for the assigned classes as directed by the headmistress. During the 3rd period, following Archana teacher's instructions, I administered a test using the question paper she had prepared. The students demonstrated exemplary discipline throughout the test. Afterward, I collected the answer sheets and placed them securely on Archana teacher's desk.

During the 5th period, I conducted a class in 8A and successfully completed my 18th lesson plan. In the 6th period, as per Archana teacher's guidance, I assisted the students of class 8C with their textual activities. Toward the end of the day, Archana teacher informed me that the school roleplay team had secured 3rd place in the district-level competition. I felt an immense sense of pride and happiness, knowing I had contributed to their success.




DAY 20 (09/10/2024) $ DAY 21 (10/10/2024)

Due to some medical emergencies I was unable to go to school. As instructed, I took permission from the school headmistress, concerned school teacher and my optional teacher Velu Sir. With their permission. I took leave and promised to complete my lesson plans within the stipulated time.


DAY 22 (14/10/2024)

After the school reopened following the Pooja holidays and the weekend, I compensated for my recent absence by arranging additional classes. Archana teacher assigned me three substitution periods: one in 8C and two in 8A. During the first period, I guided the students of 8C through textual activities as per Archana teacher's instructions. In the third period, I taught grammar topics, specifically 'if clauses' and tenses, to assist the students of 8A with their textual exercises. Later, in the 5th and 7th periods, I compensated for my missed classes by completing two lesson plans. I was pleasantly surprised by the students' keen interest in learning grammar, which they grasped quickly, demonstrating a strong engagement by completing numerous examples.


DAY 23 (15/10/2024)

The sub-district level science fair was in progress, leading to the absence of many teachers who had to accompany students to the event. As a result, the day was filled with substitution periods, starting from the first period and lasting almost until the evening. During the 3rd period, we were assigned to monitor the SAT, and its evaluation was carried out during the 6th period. In the 5th period, I had a scheduled class with 8A, during which I successfully completed my 21st lesson plan.


DAY 24 (16/10/2024)

Today, I had my optional class observation by Velu Sir during the 1st period. After observing my class, he provided valuable feedback and highlighted areas for improvement. I successfully completed my 22nd lesson plan in class 8A. In the afternoon session, Sony Miss arrived for Physical Science optional observation.




DAY 25 (17/10/2024)

The Sub-District level JRC elocution and quiz competition was held at Mavelikara Girls, where we were tasked with assisting the teachers in team registration, as well as monitoring and evaluating the events. The competition commenced around 10:30 am. During the 2nd period, I had a scheduled class with 8A, where I successfully completed my 23rd lesson plan. Later, in the 4th period, Archana teacher requested that I assist the students of class 8C with their textual activities.





DAY 26 (18/10/2024)

A free medical camp was organized by our college NSS Unit in collaboration with the ophthalmology and oncology departments of St. Thomas Mission Hospital, Kattanam. We were required to be present at the college to ensure the smooth conduct of the camp. With prior permission from the school headmistress, Lakshmi, Sunila, and I took half-day leave and returned for the afternoon session. Upon rejoining, I was assigned a substitution period in class 8A along with my regular period, so a total of two periods, during which I completed my 24th and 25th lesson plans.




WEEK 7

DAY 27 (21/10/2024)


The SAT model exam was scheduled for the day, and during the 3rd and 4th periods, we assisted the teachers in monitoring the exam. In the afternoon session, we were responsible for evaluating the answer sheets and tabulating the marks. During the 7th period, I had a class with 8A, where I completed my 26th lesson plan, finishing the chapter  Rosa Parks Sat Still.


DAY 28 (22/10/2024)

An educational strike was organized by the KSU in Alappuzha district, making it impossible to conduct classes for the day. Upon arriving at the school, we focused on consolidating and tabulating the SAT mark list. Once the task was completed, the teachers advised us to leave, as there were no students remaining on campus due to the strike.


DAY 29 (23/10/2024)

Today, I conducted three classes—one in 8C and two in 8A. As per Archana teacher's instructions, I guided the students of 8C through their textual activities. In 8A, the scheduled class and an additional substitution period allowed me to complete two lesson plans, thus concluding the poem  The Sower.

DAY 30 (24/10/2024)

As part of our B.Ed curriculum, we were required to organize a conscientization program for the school students. With prior approval from the Headmistress, we scheduled this program for the 30th day of our teaching practice. The program, titled "RePlast," aimed to raise awareness about the different grades of plastic and their recyclability. Additionally, today I conducted a Physical Education class for 9C on the topic "Drowning." During the 2nd period, I had my scheduled class in 8C, where I introduced the poem The Village Blacksmith, thereby completing my 29th lesson plan.





DAY 31 (25/10/2024)

Today, I conducted two classes—one in 7A and the other in 8A. A teacher from the UP section requested my assistance with guiding the students of 7A through their textual activities. Supporting them was a valuable and new experience. In 8A, I completed my 30th lesson plan.

WEEK 8

DAY 32 (28/10/2024)

Due to the ongoing school *Kalolsavam* and the shortage of available teachers, the school operated on a special timetable, with each period extended to cover two standard periods. During the first period, I conducted a session in class 8A, where I successfully completed two lesson plans from the poem The Village Blacksmith. In the 3rd and 4th periods, as directed by Archana teacher, I took charge of class 8C. Additionally, I received a substitution period in class 5A during the 6th period, which provided a unique experience, as it is the youngest class in the school.

DAY 33 (29/10/2024)

Today, the school continued to operate on a special timetable. I was assigned the 3rd and 4th periods in class 8A, during which I conducted an Achievement Test. The students were well-prepared and performed commendably. Additionally, in the 4th period, I completed my 33rd lesson plan, marking the beginning of the 4th unit. Following this, I took charge of class 8C during the 5th and 6th periods, as per Archana teacher's instructions.  





DAY 34 (30/10/2024)

The first period was a substitution in class 7 B. During the 5th and 6th period I had a scheduled class in 8 C. During the 7th period, I got a substitution period in class 8 a and i distributed the corrected answer sheets. Gowri achieved the first position by securing 25 out of 25. After distributing the papers I was able to complete my 34th lesson plan. 

DAY 35 (01/11/2024)

After a long gap, we had an assembly and it was specially arranged to celebrate the kerala piravi day. The assembly included various other activities to comemorate the day and after the assembly, the students were made to visit the A.R. Raja Varma memorial as part of the special day. during my scheduled period in 8 A, the 3rd and 4th period, I completed my 2 lesson plans and there by completing the poem The Song of the Flower. During the 6th and 7th period I took class in 8 C.




WEEK 9

DAY 36 (04/11/2024)

With prior permission from the school headmistress and the relevant school and college teachers, I availed leave for the day due to unforeseen medical emergencies.

DAY 37 (05/11/2024)

During the 5th period, I conducted my scheduled class for 8A and completed my 37th lesson plan, initiating the poem First Showers by Nalini Sharma, which explores the healing effects of rain. Additionally, during the lunch break, we assisted the teachers in serving the mid-day meal.


DAY 38 (06/11/2024)

Today, I conducted my class during the 5th period and completed my 38th lesson plan. During the 6th and 7th periods, Sony Miss visited for the Physical Science optional observation and observed the classes of Manna and Keerthi.



DAY 39 (07/11/2024)

The day commenced with a school assembly conducted by Class 7B, specially organized to distribute prizes and honor students who achieved various positions in the Sub-district level School Kalolsavam and Science Fair. After the assembly, I conducted my scheduled class in 8A during the 2nd period and took a substitution period during the 4th period. I successfully completed 40 lesson plans, thereby concluding the lesson plans for the first phase of my teaching practice. During the 6th and 7th periods, we were assigned to monitor the drawing competition organized by the Mathrubhumi Seed Club. In the final period, I reviewed and corrected students' notebooks.



DAY 40 (08/11/2024)

It was the last day of our teaching practice. During the 3rd and 4th period, we were asked to monitor the NAS exam conducted for class 6 and 9. During the 4th period I had my scheduled class in 8 A. Since I have done with my lessons, I assisted the students in doing some extra questions. I taught them how to write an appreciation for a poem. During the afternoon session we evaluated and consolidated the marklist of NAS exam. Before leaving the school we visited the school H. M and collected our attendence sheet to be returned to the college office.
